Smaller ecologic footprint – greater savings

Biogas engines produce green energy. Biogas engines offer a solution to various energy needs, from electricity production to CHP plants. Our full-service bioenergy solutions include planning, delivery, installation and maintenance throughout the lifecycle of the equipment.

We offer gas engines in the power range of 30 – 4117 kW. We have more than 1900 MV of experience and know-how in biogas engines. Our solid competence in biogas engines is always at our customers' disposal.

Operating models

CHP-plant

Cogeneration systems i.e. CHP systems produce both heat and electricity at the same time. The CHP systems enable the efficient utilisation of all the energy produced by a plant - also the waste heat. The total operating efficiency of a CHP plant is 90 %.

Efficient CHP production may enable up to 40 % savings in energy consumption compared with separate production of heat and electricity. Loss during transportation and distribution is also considerably smaller when heat production and distribution are close together.

Biogas

Biogas is generated as a result of decomposition of organic material in oxygenless space. Methanogens cause methane to be generated during the decomposition process. The prequisitive is lack of oxygen, a pH value of 6.5 - 7.5. and a temperature of 15 - 25 °C (mesophile) or 45 - 55 °C (thermophile). 

The decomposition process lasts an estimated 10 days with thermophile, 25 - 30 days with mesophile and 90 - 120 days with psychrophile bacteria. Modern decomposition processes occur mainly in the temperature range of mesophiles. 

Landfill gas

Landfill waste contains 150 - 250 kg of organic carbon per tonne. These substances are biodegradable, and when they are in a closed, oxygenless space, they turn into landfill gases. Tranformation into methane in oxygenless space begins within one or two years after the waste has reached the landfill. 

If the collection of landfill gas is continuous and controlled, the reference values below will be reached once the operation has started. 

  • Methane (CH4) approximately 40 - 50 % of volume
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) approximately 35 - 45 % of volume
  • Nitrogen content (N2) approximately 5 - 15 % of volume
  • Oxygen content (O2) approximately 1 - 3 % of volume
  • Water steam (H2O) saturated
